Per the CDC's own guidelines: Use the following symbols in the order shown to indicate footnotes: *, †, ‡, §, ¶, #. If the table requires >6 footnotes, use double (e.g., **, ††) symbols. Ref: https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/page/tables
